The question of when to do an athletic field renovation depends on your individual requirements. Some fields, like M & T Bank Stadium, get resodded almost yearly, while other recreational fields may very rarely be renovated. When renovating a field, timing is critical. Whether it is converting a cool-season grass soccer field to bermudagrass, reconstructing an entire baseball field, or resodding large areas, K & C can help you accomplish your goals. Bermudagrass Conversions
This type of renovation has been very popular in the last decade. The results are eye popping. Instead of investing millions of dollars into an arificial field that will wear out and become unsafe (and need to eventually be replaced for even more money), upgrade to a beautiful bermudagrass field for a true fraction of the cost. It is one of those rare moments in life that the more afforable option is also the better quality option! Look at the photos below of a field hockey/lacrosse field we converted to see for yourself. Converting a cool season grass field to Bermudagrass creates a much better playing surface, and even keeps you within budget. It truly feels like you are playing on a living carpet. Bermudagrass has incredible density, uniformity, and resiliency, making it the ideal grass for athletic fields. And, when it turns brown in the winter, all you have to do is overseed with some perennial ryegrass and you will have a green field all year round. Conversions can be sodded or sprigged, with sprigging being preferred.
Fraze Mowing
Use of a rotary spindle with blades for the purpose of removing the top layer of organic matter accumulation (thatch). Some surface soil may also be removed based on depth of fraze mowing. Traditionally this process was used primarily in preparation for sod or reseeding, but in recent years, fraze mowing has been used to eliminate some weeds, stimulate turfgrass growth and improve infiltration and soil oxygen levels. Another benefit, especially for sports turf or golf courses, is the smoothing of minor playing surface undulations.
Sodding and Seeding
Looking to improve your field in a hurry? Need to replace those worn out goal mouths? We do it all for sodding. Bring us in to remove your existing grass, prep and grade the soil, and install the new sod. We can lay small/big roll sod or however else you want it. We sod all types of fields – baseball, softball, football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and golf courses.
We use our Vredo Overseeder which gives us up to a 96% germination rate to do our seeding. If you would like to get on a regular seeding program each year, then this is a great option for you. It helps fill in heavy wear areas and promote higher turfgrass density throughout your field. We can also seed your field from scratch after preparing and grade the soil.
Laser Grading and Leveling
Improper surface drainage for an athletic field can have dire consequences. Without proper drainage it is very difficult to have a quality looking field. Laser grading is the best solution to this. Laser grading not only solves drainage issues, but it gives you an even higher quality playing surface as well. Say goodbye to inconsistencies, low spots, swales, and other hazards to player safety and impediments to playing quality.
We can come in and grade your field based off of its pre-existing conditions to maximize our efficiency. Each field we do is a bit different, so we will do whatever makes the most sense for grading your field. After grading, we can also do the sod installation and help with the grow-in program.
