Athletic Turf & Field Maintenance

• Mowing: The base of any athletic turf program starts with proper mowing.  The grass needs to be trained at the proper height and never cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade at any time.
• Fertilizing: Having a proper nutrient management program gives the plant the food it needs to stay healthy.  Soil testing is an important aspect of our fertility programs.
• Aerification: Promotes air and water movement through the soil.  Decompacting the soil profile helps grass withstand the foot traffic.  A strong aerification program that coincides with amount of play on a field is critical for overall health.  There are many different ways to aerify a field and each have their own unique application.

  • Slicing
• Seeding: Timing is everything when seeding.  If seeding is done at the wrong time, the results can be less than desired.  Our Vredo slit seeder has a 96% germination rate, which saves money on seed costs.
• Topdressing: It is used to level the playing field when minor variations or depressions are apparent, help to amend physical soil properties and create a better growing environment for the turf and help reduce thatch.
• Verticutting: A very important part of a Bermudagrass maintenance program.  Bermudagrass can develop extreme amounts of thatch over time that leads to puffiness and mower scalping.  Verticutting can remove excess thatch to let the plant breathe better and create a firmer playing surface.
• Irrigation: A properly managed irrigation system is critical for mid to high level profile fields. Improper irrigation management can lead to disease, weeds, and overall attrition of an athletic field surface.
